5 Ways To Reach Out With More Love & Kindness

    August 20, 2015

“Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God” (D&C 18:10). We are all children of a Heavenly Father and were sent to this earth to learn to love and serve God and others.

In Mark 12, we are taught to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves. We can’t fully love God unless we love His children. Jesus Christ is the greatest example of reaching out to others with love and kindness. His example should guide our own words and actions wherever we are—at work, school, church, and home.

Below are five ways you can reach out to others with even more love and kindness.

    1. Serve the elderly and sick in your neighborhood.

Those who need your service include the elderly and sick, some of whom are unable to do everything they need to alone. You could mow someone’s lawn, visit someone in the hospital, or cook dinner for a family who is enduring a trial.

    2. Fulfill your home teaching and visiting teaching assignments.

As a home or visiting teacher, you have the opportunity to change someone’s life, to have a powerful impact on the home and family you visit, and to be a true instrument in the Lord’s hands.

    3. Forgive those who wrong you.

When someone offends you, follow Christ’s example. Don’t hold grudges or retaliate; instead, forgive as quickly and freely as possible.

President Thomas S. Monson taught, “Forgiveness should go hand in hand with love.”

    4. Be respectful of others’ views and beliefs.

There are many who do not share our views or beliefs as Latter-day Saints. We have been taught by Church leaders to be respectful of others and their opinions. We are not asked to agree with them, but we should always be kind despite our differences.

    5. Look for the good in others.

None of us are perfect. It would be hypocritical to constantly consider how others are failing to think, say, or do just what is right. Look for the good. It is there.
