It’s never too late for God to bless you.

A thought from Matthew 9–10, Mark 5, and Luke 9.

Jesus healed many people during His ministry, and a lot of those people had had their problems for a long time. For example:

  • A man who had been blind since birth.1
  • The man at the pool of Bethesda who had been an invalid for 38 years.2
  • The woman who had a “spirit of infirmity” for 18 years.3
  • The woman who had a blood hemorrhage for 12 years.4

Let’s look closer at that last one, about the woman with the blood problem. She had been ill for a dozen years, had spent all her money on doctors, and had only gotten worse. Imagine how discouraged she must have felt!

But she believed in Jesus. In fact, her faith was so strong that she believed she could be healed simply by touching His clothes. And she was right!

As she reached out her hand and touched His robe, “straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague” (Mark 5:29).nullThe Savior paused to acknowledge what had happened, inviting this woman to “go in peace, and be whole” (Mark 5:34).5

We don’t know why some blessings come only after years of praying and waiting. Some blessings are never granted in this life at all! What we do know is Heavenly Father’s whole purpose is to bring about our “immortality and eternal life” (Moses 1:39). And His Son, our Savior, “doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world” (2 Nephi 26:24). In other words, everything They do is for our good.

So don’t be discouraged if the blessings you’re praying for haven’t come yet. Trust the Lord and His timing. Someday, all of God’s promises will be fulfilled!

Blessings Near and Far

Ask a trusted parent or Church leader about blessings they’ve seen in their life. Which did they have to wait for? Which came right away?
