Scriptures for Decision Making
Need help making a decision? Turn to the scriptures.

The scriptures are full of principles that can guide you in your decision-making process, whether you’re deciding what sport to play, what classes you should take, or what goals you should set. Here are excerpts from four such scriptures to guide you:

  • Doctrine and Covenants 9:8–9: “Study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right.”
  • Jacob 4:10: “Seek not to counsel the Lord, but take counsel from his hand.” Translation: Do what the Lord wants, even if it’s not what YOU want.
  • Alma 37:37: “He will direct thee for good.” Trust that He has your best interests in mind.
  • Moroni 7:16–17: “Every thing which inviteth to do good … is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ.” If the thing you’re considering invites you to do good or BE good, it’s probably a good thing to pursue. Just remember that there are plenty of good things in life. We should focus on the BEST things. (See “Good, Better, Best,” by President Dallin H. Oaks, October 200 general conference).
