Feeling alone?

A favorite verse can be like a comforting friend.

Everyone, even the most popular and social people, feel lonely sometimes. It’s a challenging part of life. Here’s a pro tip from those of us who have been there: start creating an emotional “tool kit” for when that happens—collecting activity ideas, hobbies, and uplifting media that you can turn to as you sit with those uncomfortable feelings.

And here’s an idea to kick off your collection: the scriptures can be a surprisingly powerful source of comfort! Especially when you memorize them, the verses can become like faithful friends who are always there when you need them. Not only do they fill your mind with light and truth, they also invite the Spirit, who is the ultimate Comforter.

Here are four scriptures that can be helpful when we feel lonely. What others can you find?

  • Isaiah 41:10: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee.”
  • Doctrine and Covenants 84:88: “I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.”
  • 1 Nephi 21:15: “Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee, O house of Israel.”
  • John 16:33: “These things I have spoken unto you that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

Remember, you are never truly alone. The Lord loves you. Our Church leaders pray for you. And people on the both sides of the veil are cheering you on!

Add a Song or Two

Hymns and Primary songs are also powerful and can help lift your mood. Memorizing a couple of favorites could be a great way to add to your emotional tool kit!
