Everyone wants to feel like they belong.

Your calling gives you a unique opportunity to help others feel included.

Have you ever felt lonely, excluded, or unnoticed? There may be members of your class or quorum who feel that way right now!

Here are some simple things you can do to help every member of your class or quorum feel like they belong.

Learn their name.

When God and Christ appeared to Joseph Smith, they called him by name, showing Joseph that They knew him. When you call someone by their name, you show them that you notice them and care that they are here. Use their name during class. Say hi when you see them, even outside of church and activities.

Invite them.

Are there members of your class or quorum who don’t participate much? In class give them a chance to share their thoughts, but don’t pressure them into talking if they don’t want to. Personally invite them to activities. They might decline, and that’s okay. Sometimes just the fact that they were invited will make a huge difference. Be patient and keep reaching out.

Get to know them.

Be interested in their life. Learn what they are interested in. Do they participate in any clubs, sports, or other activities? If they look like they’re having a bad day, ask them why. Don’t pry, but give them a chance to talk about what’s going on. Give them your full attention without interrupting or changing the subject.

Quiz Yourself

Can you name everyone in your class or quorum? See if you can list them all right now without looking at the class roll.
