During hard times, what did the Savior do?

Following His example can help us turn outward.

Let’s be honest: life is really hard at times! Some trials seem to last forever. Our natural inclination might be to turn inward during challenges—focusing only on our own needs and struggles.

But, as Elder David A. Bednar pointed out, the Savior shows us a different way to live.

“Throughout His mortal ministry, and especially during the events leading up to and including the atoning sacrifice, the Savior of the World turned outward—when the natural man or woman in most of us would have focused inward,” he said.1

So what does it mean to “turn outward”? Here are a few ideas you could try:

  • Pray regularly for other people.
  • Help at least one person a day.
  • Send a thank-you message when someone helps you.
  • Share time, money, and other resources with people in need.

Turn outward and see what happens! Following Jesus Christ always leads to greater happiness in the end.

Outward Examples

Can you think of people who are good at turning outward, even during hard times? Write about their examples in your journal.
