Deafness doesn’t get in the way of her ability to hear God!

How do you listen to Him?

Kavira V. from Florida, USA, is learning to listen when God speaks.

At a youth conference for Deaf youth, she went to a workshop about how God communicates. Often, people will talk about God “speaking” to them. But can you still recognize Him if you don’t hear verbal speech?

The principles taught in Doctrine and Covenants 8:2 helped provide some answers. It says that the Lord “will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost.” So, as Kavira says, “It’s not necessarily an auditory thing.” The still, small voice of the Spirit can influence your thoughts and feelings!

For Kavira, feeling the Spirit feels like “inspiration and joy.” She has a testimony that we need to actively seek that influence.

“We have to seek God,” Kavira says. We have to “wait and be patient, and listen to Him as we pray and study the scriptures.”

Kavira acknowledges that learning to hear God is an ongoing process—but she’s ready to listen now more than ever! Read more about her in the Aug. 2023 For the Strength of Youth magazine.
