Diwali celebrates the symbolic victory of light over darkness.

Diwali is a five-day festival of lights celebrated all over the world by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains. This symbolic holiday:

  • Originated in India and is held according to the Hindu calendar. This year it starts on November 4.
  • Can be celebrated in different ways depending on religion and geographic area, but the basic idea is the same—celebrating the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
  • Includes various light displays, including beautiful fireworks.
  • Is a time when families decorate their homes with lamps and flowers, eat delicious food, and pray at their temples together.

Members of the Church might not celebrate Diwali, but we all need more light and goodness in our daily lives. How can you bring more light into your life?
