Employment Ecclesiastical Endorsement

Please sign in to view all available content.

Employment within the Church Educational System (CES) includes:

1. Professional requirements

An individual’s professional, educational, and other experience is gathered and evaluated by the respective CES entity. Job descriptions and associated employment requirements are obtained from the respective CES entity and employment information may be found at the links below:

2. Ecclesiastical requirements

Candidates for employment and ongoing employees are expected to meet certain ecclesiastical requirements.

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has established an Ecclesiastical Clearance Office (ECO) to gather and review ecclesiastical information to ensure that current and future employees of CES entities meet the ecclesiastical requirements. The ECO is directed by a General Authority Seventy who also serves as the Church’s Commissioner of Education.

Candidates for employment and ongoing employees consent to the ECO contacting their priesthood leaders to confirm that they meet ecclesiastical requirements for employment, including holding and being worthy to hold a temple recommend. Other information considered by the ECO includes an individual’s overall Church activity, religious behavior, and support over time for the doctrine, teachings, practices, and leadership of the Church.

Ecclesiastical information is kept strictly confidential and is not communicated to the candidate/employee or the CES entities. To ensure confidentiality and to maintain a separation of ecclesiastical information from employment information, the ECO (and not the CES institutions) processes ecclesiastical endorsements for all current and potential employees.
