Merge Duplicate Records

Policy and Principle

On occasion, two or more membership records may exist for the same person. This may occur when both the mission office and the ward clerk create a new membership record for the same convert or when someone creates a new record without realizing that one was created previously.

When the duplicate records reside in the same ward, the ward clerk may use Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR) to request that Church headquarters merge the records. When the duplicate records reside in different wards, the ward clerk should contact the Global Service Center to merge the records.

Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR) Procedures

If the duplicate records reside in the same ward:

  1. Click the Merge Duplicate Records link under the Membership tab, or click here to go to the Merge Duplicate Records page in LCR.
  2. Click the check box next to the names of both (or all) duplicate records.
  3. Click the Merge Records button to send the request to Church headquarters.
  4. Church headquarters will complete the merge within 48 hours.
