The Family History Department has partnered with Lexmark International, Inc. to provide at least one Lexmark multi-function-printer (MFP) to each official family history center (FHC). The roll-out began in North America in 2011 and by the end of March, 2014 all FHCs in North America will have received at least one Lexmark MFP.
Deployment of the Lexmark MFPs outside of North America will begin in Q2 of 2014 and be completed by the end of 2015.
As part of the Lexmark deployment in North America, we have contracted with Lexmark to provide a managed print service. The managed print program allows Church headquarters to monitor the Lexmark devices in the FHCs and automatically ship a replacement toner to the FHC Director when needed.
In order for the managed print program to be successful, the following actions need to take place:
- The Lexmark devices in an FHC need to be connected to the building’s network behind the church provided firewall via Ethernet cable. They should not be connected via USB to a computer.
- All Lexmark devices in an FHC should be configured with a static IP address on the church network.
- All Lexmark devices in an FHC must be registered by completing the form here.
The Family History Department has also been working with Lexmark to develop applications that will assist our FHC patrons in accomplishing their family history work.
In early 2014 completion of the “Scan to FamilySearch” app was completed. This app allows an individual to scan photos and documents directly from the Lexmark MFP to FamilySearch without using a computer. If the app has not been deployed to the Lexmark MFP in an FHC, please make sure the three previously outlined actions have taken place and contact FamilySearch at 866-406-1830 from the FH
