Connecting DVD Player to Display Device

This article reviews how to connect a DVD player to a TV or projector for the following configurations:

In each case, do not place the DVD player on equipment that may become hot. Turn off all equipment before connecting the DVD player. Connect the DVD player’s power supply cord last. Be sure to change the TV to the appropriate video input setting.

For TVs with Component Video Input

  • To use the DVD player in the configuration below, change the TV to the appropriate video input setting.
  • To use the VCR in this configuration, tune the TV to the appropriate channel (2, 3, or 4).

Note: you may need to purchase RF and component video cables.

For TVs with S-Video Input

  • To use the DVD player in this configuration, change the TV to the appropriate video input setting.
  • To use the VCR in this configuration, tune the TV to the appropriate channel (2, 3, or 4).

For TVs with Standard Video Input

  • To use the DVD player in this configuration, change the TV to the appropriate video input setting.
  • To use the VCR in this configuration, tune the TV to the appropriate channel (2, 3, or 4).

Note: you may need to purchase an RF cable.

For TVs with Only Antenna Input (RF)

  • Use this configuration only if your TV does not have any inputs other than the ANT IN (RF). 
  • To use the DVD player in this configuration, make sure the VCR is on and that no videotape is playing in the VCR. Tune the TV to the channel you use when playing VHS tapes (2, 3, or 4).
  • To use the VCR in this configuration, tune the TV to the appropriate channel (2, 3, or 4).

Note: you may need to purchase the RF cable separately.

Note: copy-protected DVDs will not play in this configuration.

For TVs with SCART Input (European)

  • If your TV has only one SCART input, you may be able to connect the VCR using a SCART adapter or other types of cables.
  • To use the DVD player or the VCR in this configuration, change the TV to the appropriate video input setting.

Note: you may need to purchase SCART cables.
