- The new images section of the LDS Media Library contains more than 2,400 images, with more being added each month.
- Images are searchable by keyword and are organized in 43 categories.
- The photos and artwork in the library are available free of charge for noncommercial use.
Where is that Arnold Friberg painting of Nephi found on the Church website? Where can members obtain high-resolution temple photos for use as computer backgrounds?
These and other questions are now more easily answered by using a new feature in the LDS Media Library: an image compendium designed to simplify locating, downloading, and sharing gospel-related graphics.
Located at images.ChurchofJesusChrist.org, the new section of the Media Library offers image options for use on mobile devices or tablets, as computer wallpapers, or for print production.
Users may be familiar with many of the available visuals found on the website. Some images, like Friberg’s commissioned work Nephi Rebuking His Rebellious Brothers, also appear in the Gospel Art Kit.
Other images, however, appear on the Church website for the first time, such as a photo of a little girl hanging an ornament on a Christmas tree. These new pictures are made available to everyone through the photo submission opportunity found on the Serving in the Vineyard website, where members and others may donate photos they have taken for use in future Church media.
Old or new, all of the images are available free of charge for noncommercial use. Images are organized in 43 categories, such as Gospel Art or Family Portraits, and are searchable by keyword. Currently the library contains more than 2,400 images, with more being added each month.
Future additions to the Media Library will include an audio section that organizes downloads from the Mormon Channel, the scriptures, and Church music, all into one website. The audio section will be available in the first half of 2012.
Currently, the LDS Media Library is available in English, and plans are in place for introducing other languages to the site in the future.
A short guide on how to use these media in Church lessons is also available on the website.
