See Inside the New Port-au-Prince Haiti Temple

In preparation for the Haitian Latter-day Saints’ welcoming their friends and neighbors to tour the much-anticipated temple in Port-au-Prince, the Church released photos of some of the exquisite details found within the 10,396-square-foot edifice.
The Port-au-Prince Haiti Temple public open house officially begins on Thursday, August 8, and will run through Saturday, August 17, prior to its dedication on Sunday, September 1.
The temple will be the Church’s 165th operating and the first for Haiti, a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea.
Reflective of the nation’s tropical vegetation and turquoise-ocean beaches, the temple is encircled with lush gardens and is decorated in vivid blue, lime green, and gold. The photos released by the Church show glimpses of some of the etched carpet, which is designed with Haiti’s national flower—the hibiscus—and an array of palm leaves and tropical flowers.
Photos of the celestial room, brides’ room, waiting rooms, instruction rooms, and other areas of the temple also highlight some of the Swarovski crystal from Austria used in the light fixtures and the Venetian hand-blown glass.
Today, there are more than 23,000 members of the Church in the Caribbean nation, which retains 5 stakes, 26 congregations, 20 branches, and 1 mission—the Haiti Port-au-Prince Mission.
The temple was announced by President Thomas S. Monson in the April 2015 general conference, and ground was broken by Elder Walter F. González, General Authority Seventy and President of the Church’s Caribbean Area, on October 28, 2017.
Prior to the temple’s dedication in September, a youth devotional will be held Saturday, August 31.
