Elder Richard J. Maynes Called to Presidency of Seventy

Elder Richard J. Maynes has been called to the Presidency of the Seventy, effective immediately.
In January the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the call of Elder Richard J. Maynes to the Presidency of the Seventy.
He will replace Elder Steven E. Snow, who has been called to serve as Church Historian and Recorder and Executive Director of the Church History Department. Elder Snow succeeds Elder Marlin K. Jensen, with whom he will work for training and transition purposes until Elder Jensen's release later this year.
“We commend these Brethren on their faithful and devoted service and look forward to working with them in their new responsibilities,” a letter from the First Presidency, addressed to General Authorities and general auxiliary presidencies, read.
Under the direction of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, the Presidency of the Seventy supervises priesthood leaders in the United States and Canada. With the change in the presidency, the following new assignments in the supervision of those areas were announced by the First Presidency:
Elder L. Whitney Clayton, who has supervised the North America Northwest and North America West Areas, will now supervise the three areas in Utah. Elder Maynes will now direct the work in the North America Northwest and North America West Areas.
Elder Maynes will continue to serve in his current assignment as Executive Director of the Family History Department during the transition period. Elder Maynes has previously served as a member of the Philippines Area Presidency and as second counselor in the Sunday School general presidency.
