Follow April 2013 General Conference
The following are announcements and summaries from each session of the 183nd Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from April 6 and 7, 2013.
UPDATE: Sunday, April 7, 2013, 3:54 p.m.
President Thomas S. Monson closed the April 2013 general conference with the invitation to reach out to others as the Savior did. “May we ever follow His example.” The invitation echoed the theme of other messages from the afternoon session. Elder Dallin H. Oaks likewise invited all to follow Jesus Christ by acting on the Savior's teachings. “Jesus's teachings were not meant to be theoretical.” Elder D. Todd Christofferson encouraged members to “go about doing good in the redemptive pattern of the Master.”

President Thomas S. Monson encouraged members to keep God’s commandments: “A knowledge of truth and the answers to our greatest questions come to us as we are obedient to the commandments of God.” President Dieter F. Uchtdorf explained how the Light of Christ can illuminate dark paths, heal souls, and inspire hope. Elder Neil L. Andersen encouraged all to become a part of the unfolding miracle of missionary work by inviting others to “come and see.” Sister Rosemary M. Wixom taught how the words parents speak can influence children to come to Christ. Elder L. Whitney Clayton invited all to watch and learn from examples of faithful marriages. Elder L. Tom Perry asked members to actively use agency to stand morally strong and keep God’s commandments.

Church leaders invited every priesthood holder to participate in sharing the gospel regardless of age or circumstance. “To each of us comes the mandate to share the gospel,” said President Monson. President Eyring revisited the call for every member to be a missionary. President Uchtdorf told every priesthood holder, “you are important, you are loved, you are needed.” Elder Hales invited young men to prepare to live the law of consecration by preparing to seek a mission call.

During the Saturday afternoon session, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf released Elder Walter F. González from the Presidency of the Seventy and called Elder Ulisses Soares to the Presidency.
Also released were Young Women general president Sister Elaine Dalton and her counselors, Sister Mary N. Cook and Sister Ann M. Dibb. Called to the new Young Women general presidency were Sister Bonnie Lee Green Oscarson as president; Sister Carol Louise Foley McConkie, first counselor; and Sister Evelyn Neill Foote Marriott, second counselor. President Dieter F. Uchtdorf announced new callings to the First Quorum of the Seventy and the Second Quorum of the Seventy. Several Area Seventy were also called and released. Read more information about these callings.

Elder Russell M. Nelson encouraged young missionaries to apply for college before leaving on a mission, adding that many schools will grant students an 18–30-month deferral to serve a mission.

President Thomas S. Monson announced plans to build temples in Cedar City, Utah, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, today. Read more information on the new temples.
He also praised the response of young people to the change in the age requirements for missionaries, saying that 65,634 full-time missionaries are currently serving, more than 20,000 have received calls, and 6,000 more are in the interview process. To help maintain the missionary force, he encouraged people to contribute generously to the missionary fund.
Elder M. Russell Ballard spoke about the priesthood and how all children of God can be strengthened by its power. He encouraged stake and ward leaders and families to view and use the Strengthening the Family and the Church through the PriesthoodWorldwide Leadership Training videos on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
