Family History Library to Host 2018 Block Party

The Family History Library Block Party, sponsored by the library and the Church History Museum of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018.
This fun-filled family-friendly block party will be held on West Temple Street between North and South Temple Streets from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Admission and activities are free.
The live entertainment begins at 11:00 a.m. with the Utah Pipe Band, which is the oldest continuously organized Scottish Bagpipe Band in the western United States; the Malibu Revue, playing music from the ’50s and ’60s; a Tabernacle organ recital; the Kenshin Taiko Japanese Drummers; Yunuen Carrillo, Utah’s recognized mariachi music singer; and Ballet “Viva el Folklore.”

Other free outside attractions include a rock-climbing wall, bounce houses, face painting, family history arts and crafts, and pioneer games with free prizes. There will also be food trucks and snow cones for nominal fees.
Inside the library are other fun activities, with interactive discovery experiences, such as digitally dressing in time-period costumes, recording family memories, and more. Also, there will be fun green-screen photo opportunities. In the museum, you can see photographs of Church members from around the world and beautiful paintings of Jesus Christ, experience the First Vision beautifully depicted on a 240° circular screen that surrounds the audience, and discover the trails used by Latter-day Saint pioneers between 1846 and 1890. Toddlers to 2-year-olds will have fun learning through hands-on play and art projects.

The library is hosting this event to help families of all ages discover what a fabulous resource the Family History Library and the Church History Museum are for those beginning and doing their family history. The hope is that families will come for the fun, discover something interesting about their ancestors, and return to the library again and again to continue their quest to learn more about their own families.
