Church Announces Site for Moses Lake Washington Temple

The site for the Moses Lake Washington Temple was announced by leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Tuesday, October 29.
The planned single-story temple of approximately 20,000 square feet will be located on Yonezawa Boulevard between Division Street and Road K NE. The temple will have a center spire. A 17,000-square-foot meetinghouse will be built adjacent to the temple on the 17-acre site.
Detailed design plans, interior and exterior renderings, and the groundbreaking date for the temple will be released to the public at a later date.
The Moses Lake Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2019 general conference.
Following the announcement, Mitchell J. Heaps, first counselor in the Moses Lake Washington Stake presidency, told the Church News that the rural farming community has hoped for the temple for a long time.
“We have a legacy of saints in the area,” Heaps said. “They came in the 1950s to settle the area with the Grand Coulee Dam nearby. … [The temple announcement] shows that our Father in Heaven trusts us to carry the work forward here in Eastern Washington.”
Heaps said the Moses Lake area has one stake with 12 units—about 4,000 members—who make up about 15 percent of the community. Church members in the area have been attending the Columbia River Temple located in Richland.
The Moses Lake Temple will be the fourth in Washington. The state currently has temples in Richland, Seattle, and Spokane.
