“This training will help everyone understand the important relationship of learning in the home and at church.”
—Brother Tad. R. Callister, Sunday School general president

In an effort to expand the training available to ward and stake auxiliary leaders worldwide, the general presidencies of the Relief Society, Primary, Young Women, Young Men, and Sunday School have published annual auxiliary training videos online at annualtraining.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

Each year, the general presidencies of the Church select important topics to help leaders who are called to work in the Church’s organizations throughout the world. These topics are presented in annual auxiliary training, which helps ward and stake leaders learn their duties and introduces resource materials that can be used for additional training purposes.

Focusing on learning and teaching

There are two parts to the 2014 online training. Part 1 focuses on why learning and teaching in the home is so important and how stake and ward leaders can support members to learn the doctrine of the gospel for themselves.

According to Brother Tad R. Callister, Sunday School general president, “Gospel teachers are called to teach the true doctrine of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Ghost for the conversion of individual children of God. This training will help everyone understand the important relationship of learning in the home and at church.”

Part 2 of this year’s auxiliary training is specific to the various organizations of the Church. These materials help stake and ward auxiliary leaders train the leaders and teachers called to serve in their organization.

The 2014 auxiliary leadership training is now available at annualtraining.ChurchofJesusChrist.org in English only but will be available in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, Russian, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese in the coming weeks.

individuals, parents, and families are encouraged to view the
training videos and apply the principles to their situations at home.

Having training available in more languages and a greater flexibility for viewing and sharing the videos mean more local leaders can access inspired guidance from the general presidencies of the Church.

Using the training at church

Training videos can be viewed online and also downloaded for future viewing and training.

Stake and ward leaders are encouraged to use these videos in stake and ward leadership training meetings, council meetings, or fifth Sunday discussions.

Stake and ward auxiliary presidencies may also use these materials to train the leaders and teachers with whom they serve.

According to the notice sent to bishops and stake leaders, “These materials provide local leaders an important resource to review and use as the Spirit directs.”

Using the training at home

Although the training is targeted at ward and stake leaders, individuals, parents, and families are encouraged to view the videos and apply the principles to their situations at home.

“Just as the Savior taught Nicodemus, parents guide their children along the path of covenants to help them return to our Father in Heaven” (see John 3:2), said Elder Christoffel Golden, Jr. of the Seventy. “This requires them to be teachers ‘come from God’ in the home, just as we expect we will find at Church.”

Meeting global needs of auxiliary leaders

According to Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson, Young Women general president, providing the annual auxiliary training online better meets the needs of a growing global Church.

In the past, auxiliary leadership training meetings were held in Salt Lake City at Church headquarters in conjunction with April general conference. The valuable instruction provided was limited to those who could attend in person or watch the webcasts in English and Spanish.

Having training available in more languages and a greater flexibility for viewing and sharing the videos mean more local leaders and Church members can access inspired guidance from the general presidencies of the Church.
