Paul V. Johnson

Paul V. Johnson was sustained as Sunday School General President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 6, 2024. He began serving on August 1, 2024.

Church Service

Elder Paul V. Johnson was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 2, 2005. Following his call as a General Authority, he served as a counselor in the Chile Area Presidency and as the Europe Area President. He also served as the Commissioner of the Church Educational System for nine years. Elder Johnson began service as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy on August 1, 2021. In that assignment he assisted the Quorum of the Twelve in supervising the North America Southeast Area, the Philippines Area, and the South America South Area. He was granted Emeritus status effective August 1, 2024. On the same date, he began service as the Sunday School General President.

He has served in a variety of Church callings, including full-time missionary in Norway Oslo Mission, elders quorum president, bishop, counselor in a stake presidency, and Area Seventy.

Professional Life

Elder Johnson graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1977, a bachelor of science degree in 1978, and a master of education degree in 1982. He went on to earn a doctor of education degree from Utah State University in 1989. He spent a number of years in the Seminary and Institute system as a teacher and administrator.

Personal Life

Paul Vere Johnson was born in Gainesville, Florida, on June 24, 1954. He married Jill Washburn in August 1976. They are the parents of nine children.
