“Why I Believe” Fireside with the Whiteheads

Come to the "Why I Believe" Fireside on Sunday, August 17 at 7:00 pm with Richard and Launa Whitehead from Southern Virginia University. All events are free and open to the public.


Sister Whitehead is a Professor of Music, teaching music history and is chair of the Fine and Performing Arts Division. She holds a Master of Music in flute performance from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and has taught at Southern Utah University, Dixie State University and Tuachan Center for the Arts. She has played with several symphonies and orchestras and released a CD of LDS hymns, “Peace to the Soul,” in 2000.

Brother Whitehead has been the Vice President of Institutional Advancement for the past eleven years and served as Acting President at Southern Virginia University for one of those years. He is a graduate of Dixie State University, BYU and Creighton University School of Dentistry. 

Together they presided over the England Bristol and Birmingham Missions of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from July 2000 to July 2003. They have held numerous positions in the Church. She has been a Sunday School teacher, Primary president, counselor in a Stake Relief Society Presidency and most recently Stake Young Women’s President. He has been a Bishop, counselor in a Stake Presidency and currently is on the high council of the Buena Vista YSA Stake.

They are the parents of six children and twenty grandchildren.
