New Hot 5

    Friday, July 10
7:30 p.m. in Brigham Young Historic Park

Led by Dr. Steve Call, BYU music professor emeritus, the New Hot 5 Jazz Band is a professional ensemble that has played festive events in the U.S, Europe, and the Caribbean since 2009. Their viral music video “Jazz for Cows” was recorded in the French Alps in 2011 and has 15 million views on YouTube. Steve plays tuba and cimbasso along with tenor banjoist Joshua Payne, clarinetist Clark Burnside, trumpeter/vocalist Daniel Henderson, and trombonist Brian Woodbury. All are former student musicians of the BYU Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band that Steve led. The band plays the music of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, and lively popular songs from the “Roaring 20s.” They recently released a fourth CD selection of New Orleans jazz classics.

This free event is open to the public and will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Brigham Young Historic Park. In case of inclement weather, outdoor concerts will be moved to the Assembly Hall.
