Minister to Others

Lesson 2: Be an Example of the Believers

Introduce the Principle

The Apostle Paul asks us to “be … an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). As a believer, the Lord has called you to a great work. He trusts you and wants you to “be an influence for good” through your righteous example (see For the Strength of Youth [2011], iii).

Learn Together

  • Think of someone who has strengthened you through his or her example of living gospel standards in difficult circumstances. What did that person do that inspired you?
  • As a leader, why is it essential that you lead by example?
  • What will help you to have the moral courage to stand alone for what is right?

Live What We Are Learning

Practice some situations in which it might be difficult to be an example, such as when you hear people using bad language or gossiping about other class members. What will you say? What will you do?

Ponder how you can be “an example of the believers” “at all times and in all things, and in all places” (Mosiah 18:9). Select one thing you will commit to do this week to be an example to your class members, friends, and family. Prepare to share your experience at the next class presidency meeting.
