Class Presidency Meeting and Councils

Class Presidency Meeting

A Young Women class presidency is called and set apart by priesthood authority to lead their class. Class presidency meetings are important to each presidency member in fulfilling their responsibilities to prepare, counsel, teach, minister, and lead. Here are some valuable resources that will help Young Women presidencies reach their full potential in doing the Lord’s work.

Ward Youth Council

“The purpose of the ward youth council is to help the youth bring others to Jesus Christ and to help accomplish the work of salvation and exaltation” (General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11.3.4.4). The bishop presides over these meetings, discussing with quorum and class presidents how to help others build testimonies, receive saving ordinances, keep covenants, and become consecrated followers of Jesus Christ. They focus on the needs of the youth in the ward and activities to help meet those needs. Learn more about ward youth council and how they can strengthen youth leaders in their callings as they serve in the Lord's youth battalion. (See General Handbook, 11.3.4.4 and 29.2.6.)

Temple and Family History Coordination Meetings

Ward temple and family history coordination meetings are to be held regularly (remotely or in person). The purpose of these meetings is to help ward members with their temple and family history work and to coordinate the ward temple and family history plan. Under the direction of the bishop, these meetings are generally held by a member of the elders quorum presidency, or a ward temple and family history leader if one has been called. Others invited to the meeting include members of the Relief Society and elders quorum presidencies, a presidency member of the oldest Young Women class, an assistant in the priests quorum, and temple and family history consultants. For more information, see General Handbook, 25.2.7.

Coordination Meetings for Sharing the Gospel

Coordination meetings for sharing the gospel are held weekly (remotely or in person). The purpose of these meetings is to strengthen new and returning members in order to gather Israel, which President Russell M. Nelson has referred to as “the greatest challenge, the greatest cause, and the greatest work on earth today” (“Hope of Israel” [worldwide youth devotional, June 3, 2018], ChurchofJesusChrist.org). Under the direction of the bishop, these meetings are generally held by a member of the elders quorum presidency, or a ward mission leader if one has been called. Others invited to the meeting include members of the Relief Society and elders quorum presidencies, ward missionaries, a presidency member of the oldest Young Women class, an assistant in the priests quorum, and the full-time missionaries. For more information, see General Handbook, 23.5.7.
