Responsibilities of a Ward Building Representative

Ward building representatives play a crucial role in ensuring that the ward’s meetinghouse is clean, well maintained, and a welcoming place for worship and activities. They work closely with ward members to coordinate cleaning and maintenance efforts.

  • Coordinate the cleaning and maintenance of the ward’s meetinghouse.
  • Schedule and oversee cleaning assignments for ward members.
  • Ensure that the meetinghouse is prepared for worship services and activities.
  • Address any maintenance issues promptly and report major concerns to stake leadership.
  • Promote a spirit of reverence and care for the meetinghouse among ward members.

Best Practices for Cleaning Assignments

Begin with prayer

Start each cleaning session with prayer to invite the Spirit and remind participants that this service shows love for the Lord and respect for His house.

Help each participant feel important

Express appreciation and emphasize that every contribution matters. This encourages participation and fosters a sense of unity.

Use cleaning cards

Provide cleaning cards that list tasks by type (for example, glass and mirrors, tile floors) rather than by area. This approach:

  • Reduces the need for multiple supplies and equipment.
  • Prevents delays caused by waiting for shared tools.
  • Makes assignments clear and easy to follow.

Download cleaning cards if you don’t already have a system in place.

Do a Sunday quick clean

If your ward or branch is the last group to use the meetinghouse on Sunday, perform a quick clean following the last meeting. The quick clean prepares the meetinghouse for weekday activities and takes care of a few important needs.

  • Empty the trash containers, especially those that have a bad odor, such as diaper containers.
  • Refill paper towels and toilet paper as needed in the restrooms.
  • Return hymnbooks to shelves or storage areas.
  • Pick up paper and other trash in the chapel and throughout the meetinghouse.
