Passport Book

Your passport book cannot expire within 6 months of your release date. If it will, you must renew your passport before applying for any visas. Please pay the extra fees to expedite the renewal of the passport. Expediting times can take 4–8 weeks to process.

What if missionaries don't sign their middle name on their passport?

Missionaries should leave their signature as is.

Can I travel internationally before going to the MTC?

Please do not schedule any international travel within 30 days of your MTC date. This includes travel to Canada or Mexico and any cruises that are outside of the United States.

If missionarie​s lose their visa packet, can they get a new one?

Yes. Please call 1-800-537-3537 and ask for the visa packet to be emailed to the missionary.

Do mission​aries send their actual passport to Missionary Travel?

No. Missionaries only need to provide a color photocopy of their passport ID page.

Does the birth certificate r​eally need to be issued within the last 5 years?

Yes. The Consulate will not accept it and will not issue a visa if the birth certificate is more than 5 years old. In addition, the Uruguayan government keeps the birth certificate in their office and the missionary will not be receiving it back.

When will missionaries re​ceive travel documents?

Travel documents will be sent to the missionary’s “my LDS” email account within 2 weeks of their MTC report date. Documents will include travel instructions, emergency contact information, an itinerary.

When will missionaries receive a name tag?

Name tags will be given upon arrival at the MTC.

Will missionaries travel by themselves to the MTC?

Each missionary is flying from their home state and will connect in major airports such as Atlanta or Dallas. Missionaries will meet up in major connecting points and continue travel to the MTC together.

How do missionaries apply for an FBI clearance?

• Click on “Secure Partner Login”
• Enter: LDS (all caps)
• Click on the Church logo
• Follow the instructions as indicated

o Be sure to enter your own address on the application. The Channeler cannot be sent to the Travel Office directly.

How do missionaries obtain authentication on their FBI clearance?

All missionaries will need to obtain an apostille for their FBI clearance. Please follow the steps below (also listed in your visa packet instruction sheet):

  • Obtain a money order for $8 made payable to the United States Department of State
  • Write a cover letter stating you need an apostille attached to your FBI clearance in order to travel to Uruguay. (You MUST specify which country you are traveling to.)
  • Send a self-addressed return envelope, $8 money order, a cover letter, and the FBI clearance to the following address for authentication:

Once the authenticated FBI clearance has been returned, please send it to Missionary Travel with the rest of the required documents.
