Frequently Asked Questions for U.S. and Canadian Residents

Do missionaries need to send their actual passport to Missionary Travel?

No, missionaries take that with them to the missionary training center, but Missionary Travel does need missionaries to send them a color photocopy of the passport photo/ID page.

Can missionaries take an international trip with their passport before they go on their mission?

Yes, the actual passport doesn’t need to be turned in to Missionary Travel, so missionaries can take an international trip with their passport before they leave on their mission.

Can missionaries send in some of their paperwork now and the rest later?

Yes. Missionaries can send in their paperwork as it’s completed. You should apply for the statewide background check just a few days prior to your MTC date so that it doesn’t expire before it is needed for your visa. Missionary Travel expects your apostilled statewide background check to come 1 to 2 weeks after you are at the MTC. Senior couples should apply for the background check no earlier than 2 months before your MTC date.

My signature does not match the name printed on my passport. Is that a problem?

It will not be a problem.

Can I make corrections to my visa forms if the information already filled in is not correct?

You may use white-out tape (not liquid) to make needed changes. Do not scribble or cross things out.

How do I attach my photo to the application?

Do not attach a photo to the visa application.

When will missionaries get their visa?

Missionaries will obtain their visa in country.
