Overview for Spouses

When we discover that our spouses have been viewing pornography, we may feel an array of emotions. Moving forward or knowing what to do next can be difficult. However, as we muster our faith and seek personal revelation, we can find hope and peace, regain confidence in ourselves as children of God, and strengthen our relationships with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

As we press forward in faith, we can take comfort in knowing that we aren’t alone. President Dieter F. Uchtdorf taught: “You will not feel loneliness, sorrow, pain, or discouragement forever. We have the faithful promise of God that He will neither forget nor forsake those who incline their hearts to Him. Have hope and faith in that promise” (“You Matter to Him,” Oct. 2011 general conference).

This site focuses on five principles that others have found useful when seeking healing. As we study these principles, seek revelation, exercise personal responsibility, and turn for needed help, we can find hope and direction. These principles include:

We are children of a loving Heavenly Father. He has blessed us with a Savior, who has suffered all things and can succor us. Having meaningful connections with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ can anchor us in difficult times. They can help us find peace and understanding.

We each experience different emotional reactions when we discover that our spouses are viewing pornography. As we seek to understand our emotions and learn to protect ourselves, we can find a sense of peace.

Connecting with others helps us confront feelings of isolation and often brings much-needed support. As we consider reaching out, we can pray for guidance in selecting safe and helpful confidants and listeners.

We cannot control our spouses’ choices, but we do have the power to determine our own paths forward. The Lord can help us find peace, stability, and clarity.

The journey ahead includes making important decisions through revelation. With help from our Father in Heaven and the Savior, we can learn to live in our new reality and establish the safety, stability, trust, and well-being we and our families need.

    Hope in Christ

Facing a challenge like this one can be devastating and difficult. However, we can find peace, purpose, and direction as we work to restore our well-being, seek to understand God’s will for us, and act in faith.

The resources on this site provide answers to common questions and principles that can help us find direction for the future. We can feel the Savior’s love for us as we seek to “have patience, and bear … afflictions, with a firm hope that [we] shall one day rest from all [our] afflictions” (Alma 34:41).
